As a part of our growth we have an exciting opportunity for an IT Specialist to join our Waterloo team. Reporting to the Director of Engineering, the IT Specialist provides Information Technology (IT) advice, guidance, and support; and maintains Exinda’s computer systems hardware inventory. Working in an agile environment you will support our Toronto and Waterloo office suites, help investigate new hardware for our state of the art WAN Orchestration appliances, and keep our staff working through the inevitable computer problems that crop up in a busy company.

Main Duties

  • Receives delivery of IT equipment; ordering and obtaining parts for computers and laptops
  • Processes and arranges the disposal of substandard IT equipment
  • Maintains accurate databases and spreadsheets and provides data requested by the Manager
  • Troubleshoots front end technology related problems
  • Performs in and out of warranty part replacement for desktop and laptop computers
  • Maintains and supports internal and cloud based infrastructure systems
    • Cisco and Vyatta core switches/routers, WAN Accelerators / optimizers
    • Intermedia, Google Applications, Amazon servers, Sharepoint, wikis
  • Rapidly set up support/QA labs and deploy devices within them
  • Ensures backups of mission critical equipment
  • Investigate and test new hardware options for our platforms and products
  • Many additional duties as they appear (It is, after all, an IT job)

  • 3-Year Diploma or Degree in a computer-related field of study, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and practical experience. Computer Science designation is preferred
  • Minimum 5 years of practical experience in a similar role
  • Formal training in
    • Operating Systems Administration (Microsoft, MAC)
    • Asset Management
    • Image Development
    • Networking
  • An understanding of computer hardware architecture and network infrastructure
  • Experience in creating computer images using various operating systems
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Use of electronic diagnostic instruments and diagnostic software
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements for the job including heavy lifting and bending to move computer equipment
  • A valid Ontario Driver’s License with access to a reliable vehicle mandatory
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing personal development and upgrading of technical skills through business activities
